Addington Gallery Grand Opening

Details

Friday, September 7th
6-9pm
704 N Wells Street

Join Addington Gallery for food and wine on September 7th, as its opens in the previous Gwenda Jay/Addington Gallery space at 704 N Wells St. The gallery name will change to reflect the new ownership. Dan Addington, who has 14 years of experience as a gallery director in Chicago, will be building on this experience as well as the 20 year history that Gwenda Jay/Addington Gallery has enjoyed in River North. With the opening of his own space, Addington intends to develop exhibitions that reflect a renewed dedication and focus on emerging Chicago artists. In addition, the gallery will introduce Chicago audiences to noted national and international artists.

The gallery will kick off the new fall season on Friday, September 7 with a solo exhibition of encaustic and mixed media works by Howard Hersh, as well as a group show of small work by emerging Chicago artists. Howard Hersh has been a regular on the Chicago art scene for decades, having exhibited in this city at a variety of galleries since the late 80s. Addington has represented Hersh's work exclusively in Chicago since 1995, and has placed his unmistakable and unique mixed media and encaustic paintings in major collections in Chicago and around the country. In this exhibition, Hersh pushes the medium of encaustic in new formal directions, emphasizing the geometric structure of the work, and counterpointing those structural qualities against the organic attributes of his materials. The exhibition opens with a reception and grand opening party on September 7th, and runs through October 16th.
